You may have seen yesterday’s post on a “giant leap” breakthrough in hydrogen production, and its implications for storing renewable energy. MIT has posted a video interview with the scientist behind this research, Daniel Nocera. Nothing you may not have already read, but I always find it's good to hear things first hand.

Green Search Engines, or search engines that help charitable causes, are one of the newest trends online. These sites are similar to – and are actually powered by - other search engines, such as Google.com or Yahoo.com, however they divert advertising dollars back into charitable causes. But with 8 billion ad dollars changing hands in 2007, this is clearly an area open to abuse. To help you use your search clicks to the best advantage, TreeHugger has rounded up many of the Green Search Engines.

The finance minister of British Columbia, Canada, has just introduced a new "escalating carbon tax" that will affect most fossil fuels. They are not the first in the country - that would be Quebec with its ridiculously low and non revenue-neutral carbon tax - but their plan has a better chance to make a difference.

The founder of Patagonia started out when he was little more than a teenager, selling his home-forged climbing hardware to “dirtbagger” mountaineers like himself. Although all he really wanted to do was travel and climb, he had a knack for innovation and invention, and Chouinard Equipment Co. evolved into Patagonia, arguably the most successful outdoor clothing company in history. In his fifty-something years of experimentation, Yvon Chouinard has racked up a list of industry firsts that defies enumeration, yet he describes himself as a reluctant entrepreneur who really just loves to climb, surf, and kayak the wilds of the world, and hopefully save them along the way.
